New Zealand Universities Rugby is proud to welcome Japan U20 to New Zealand for two first class fixtures.

After touring Japan in 2025, having played Japan U20 & Japan XV teams, New Zealand Universities Rugby is proud to welcome Japan U20 to New Zealand for two fixtures in 2026.

The opening match will be played at Waikato University on Tuesday 26 May, with kick off at 2:30pm NZT. The two sides will then meet again on Saturday 30 May at FMG Stadium Waikato, as the curtain raiser to the Chiefs v Blues Super Rugby clash, with kick off at 4:05pm NZT.

NZU is excited to partner with MediaWorks and Tribe Sports to live stream both fixtures on DSPN Rugby on Youtube.

The relationship between New Zealand Universities Rugby and the Japan Rugby Football Union dates back to 1936, with a proud history of fixtures, tours and shared rugby connection between the two sides. Japan U20 will use the matches as valuable preparation for the upcoming World Rugby U20 Championship.
